Celebration
Today Heli Dad and I celebrate 18 years as a couple –
12 of them married. We were very particular about the date of our wedding while
we were planning. We gave a variety of reasons for it but at the core of our
thinking was simply that we wanted to become a married couple on the same day
that we became a couple. We were tremendously lucky in that we were also able
to get married at the place where we met, spent a couple weeks getting to know
one another, and where we decided that despite the distance that would be
between us (we were teenagers living in different towns about an hour away from
the other) we wanted to be together.
I won’t say that our lives together have been nothing
but good – we, like all couples, have had our issues. There have been ups and
downs but through it all we’ve stuck together and done our best to remember why
we wanted to be together in the first place.
I’m lucky to say that I married my best friend. 12
years after the wedding, he’s still my best friend. And after 18 years together
I can still honestly say there’s no one else I’d rather be taking this journey
called life with.
So while we’re celebrating in the Corner Table House
today, what are you up to? Are you celebrating anything special?
