Out With The Old... Time for Something New?

So I decided with the recent rash of family deaths (for various and possibly genetic-carried causes) that it was time to go in and get a physical. Of course it was brought to my attention when I booked my appointment that it was (uh, past) time to have my IUD either removed or replaced with a new one. Which put Heli Dad and I in the position of having to make a decision about having, or at the least attempting to have another baby. This topic is one that has been circling in our house for a couple years. When Big Sis got pregnant with HG 4 years ago we started talking about it. At that time, it wasn’t a good time to make another attempt. Too much was going on in our lives, we were incredibly busy, stressed and, quite honestly, quite simply, it just wasn’t a good time to try. When Big Sis became pregnant with Genie nearly 2 years ago the discussion came up again. The timing was better, life was certainly looking better at that point but we put the dis...

A February Christmas Wrap-Up

Image
With one thing or another I never did get around to sharing any of our Christmas shenanigans after the New Year. Well for the most part they were pretty much what we’ve come to expect and experience over the last several years – 4+ different days of Christmas dinners, family time, gift giving, game playing, catching up and having fun. As I’ve mentioned in previous years, as our extended families have grown larger and spread further afield, our Christmas celebrations have become larger, longer affairs that simply can’t be accomplished in one day. So here’s a brief breakdown of all this years celebrations’ parts…

An Updated Cast of Family Characters

Image
It occurred to me while I was trying to write a post recently – one that included most, if not all, of our (still growing) immediate family on both sides, that there are now quite a lot of us AND when telling stories it can get very confusing to follow precisely who is involved. So I decided it might be worthwhile to write up something of a list of common “characters” that I talk about: family members mostly just from the immediate family. Here we go… The Corner Table Family Writer Mom (me) & Heli Dad (my hubs) Kids: Princess, Gamer Boy & Angel Face Pets: Sphinx & Jude (cats) Writer Mom’s Family Grandma and Grandpa (my parents) Pets: various cats on The Farm Big Sister and Bro (my older sister & her hubs) Kids: Big Babe, HG & Genie Pet: Rufus (dog) Little Sister and Boyfriend (my younger sister & her boyfriend) Pet: Juno (dog) Heli Dad’s Family Grams (his mom) ...

Christmas & New Years Highlights

Image
Every year at Christmastime we spend a great deal of time with our families. This past Christmas was no different.  Our first celebration of the year is always with Heli Dad's side of the family.  This day is always fun and the kids especially always love it, as all the cousins that have been of an age to play with are on this side.  It was a day of fun conversation and planning get-togethers for the coming year and more!   For several days before Christmas the kids and I went through bins and bins of clothes that we've "put away" to give away at some point.  That point finally came (as it hadn't at any time in the past) and we gave tons of clothes away to charity.  Both the kids and I were amazed by how much there was to give away, and hope that everything passed on will find a new home with someone who will appreciate it.   We made/started a new tradition this year of decorating the tree (with the hanging décor) on Christmas Eve.  In the p...

My Weekend and Planning a Boy's BDay Party

Image
So the Boy really wanted a party with  a Bouncy House-thing which, unless I were to rent just a bouncy house, means the YMCA… again.  There’s nothing wrong with that, we’ve attended parties there that were fun and done well, but last year when we had the Boy’s party there we were really dissatisfied with the service, accommodations and “games” that we received.  The kids still had fun but considering the vast differences between what we’d been promised and what we actually got, we didn’t feel we got our money’s worth.  So… no YMCA. The Boy at 1-year-old Instead the Boy and I discussed things and decided on doing a movie party.  He was especially stoked for the idea when we discovered that Cars 2 (the “most awesome and cool movie ever!”) would be playing! So details on how that all goes will come later… (only a couple more days!) This last weekend I went to Edmonton and stayed with Jen and Ed (the “most awesome and cool” big sister and brother[in...

This Weekend!

Image
So after a couple of busy weeks, we're spending a busy weekend at the farm (off and on) for what is more or less a celebration of Dad's birthday.  Jen and Ed are down for the weekend, since they're abandoning us over Thanksgiving weekend, and thus - a weekend spent with the family at the farm.   I'm there right now in fact. :)   I've missed having Jen and Ed around, and though I'm busy with my own life and they with theirs, so it's not like we'd spend all our time together even if they were still living in Lethbridge, there are times when I wish they still lived on Peigan and we could visit any time we wanted... even if it was just for a night of board games and drinks.  Or a movie, or TV show, and company. Just a mobile pic of Baby playing at the Mall one day. It's nice that they live in Edmonton though too, since it gives us an excuse to get up there more often. (*cough* occasionally *cough*)  Still, an excuse to go to Edmonton to shop...
