And So It's Official!

Image
I've mentioned several times over the last couple months (in my posts and on Facebook) that I've been planning and working on something (BIG) that was going to change a great many things for my family, my kids and husband, for myself and for the community/region that we live in...  I've said that an official announcement would be coming when I had certain things lined up and some other things sorted out...  I've made vague references and given hints...   And now it's time! So here's the story:  With so many years of experience, so much passion for the sports involved, and so much desire to share my interests and that passion with others in my community, I finally gathered my courage and am taking the leap.  Starting Fall 2013 my facility - Zephyr Athletic Arts Inc. - will be offering competitive and recreational programs in Gymnastics, Dance and All Star Cheerleading!   As of now we can be found on Facebook and Twitter, though the center's ...

One of Those Days

So right now there are probably a dozen other things that I should be doing.   Not only that, but I had an entirely different post written that I intended to put up and then this morning I had a little snafu.   I don’t know what else to call it without making it seem way more important than it really is so snafu is what I settled on. I mentioned a while ago that I was having problems getting Baby on the ice at skating but that I was using the “wisdom” that I’d learned from my experiences with Boy to get through them, or around them, and not completely stress myself out.   Well apparently I spoke WAY too soon. The last couple of weeks I haven’t been able to get Baby to do anything.   And I do mean anything.   I can’t get her to skate, to do gymnastics, to listen at home, to keep her clothes on… nothing.   She’s started having temper tantrums more and more frequently, she’s always been the most strong-willed of the kids even if she’s usually more sub...

Gymnastics (Updates) and Grandparents

Image
So remember back in September when I mentioned that I was going to get my certification to become a gymnastics coach?   And remember when I mentioned at the beginning of October that I’d headed up to Edmonton for the first weekend of training to do that?..   Things have been going really well with that. Just in case you’re curious.   And I am now a recreational gymnastics coach at our local club. As of Oct.29 I started teaching 2 parent & tot (18-23month old) classes and on Nov.2 I took on a third class with 4-year-olds.   It’s really fun actually and even though I wasn’t sure how well I’d like teaching the little tiny tots, I’ve discovered that I actually do like it, a lot.   I also spent my Saturday afternoon this past weekend coaching birthday parties.   Which was also really, really fun. And while we’re on the topic of gymnastics… the kids are all doing really well in their own classes.   Baby is getting better at following instruct...

My Weekend and Planning a Boy's BDay Party

Image
So the Boy really wanted a party with  a Bouncy House-thing which, unless I were to rent just a bouncy house, means the YMCA… again.  There’s nothing wrong with that, we’ve attended parties there that were fun and done well, but last year when we had the Boy’s party there we were really dissatisfied with the service, accommodations and “games” that we received.  The kids still had fun but considering the vast differences between what we’d been promised and what we actually got, we didn’t feel we got our money’s worth.  So… no YMCA. The Boy at 1-year-old Instead the Boy and I discussed things and decided on doing a movie party.  He was especially stoked for the idea when we discovered that Cars 2 (the “most awesome and cool movie ever!”) would be playing! So details on how that all goes will come later… (only a couple more days!) This last weekend I went to Edmonton and stayed with Jen and Ed (the “most awesome and cool” big sister and brother[in...

Tales of the First Days

Image
The Princess -           She started grade 2 this year and it didn’t seem to be all that interesting or note worthy of a first day.  She insisted that I walk her in, so that I could find her classroom and her locker for her, and then once she knew those basics it was “see ya later mom, get lost!”  And since day one (now 2 weeks past) she hasn’t wanted my interference or my assistance going in or coming out.  Except for that one day when the Mommy (yes, me!) forgot the schedule and didn’t show up to pick the Princess up from school and she received the stressed phone call from the school - “where the heck are you mom?”           Princess also started her gymnastics program again and again, I walked her in on the first day to make sure that she got to the right place to start.  It was almost embarrassing though, because honestly we get inside and then she turns to me and s...
