Remiss in posting, but finally- Our Weekend in Waterton!

When we were little it seemed like we were camping a couple of times a month from May long weekend to the end of August. I don't think it was too often that we'd camp during harvest but I can remember a couple of times when we'd pull the trailer up to Beaver Mines and stay off and on for like three weeks! Or two, but you know how time bleeds together for children! Of course it wasn't always with mom and dad that I'd be camping. I can remember going camping to Waterton with Grandpa and Grandma McGlenn and Avery. We'd strap lawn chairs into the back of Grandpas truck (inside the topper) and that's where we'd ride during the drive. We'd take notebooks and if we needed to talk to Grandpa or Grandma then we'd write a note and hold it up to the window of the truck. It was always fun, and the memories are just as fun to look back on. It was one of those memories that I drudged up when we were in Waterton last weekend.

When we used to go there as kids, Avery and I pretty much ran wild. We'd check in with Grandma and Grandpa every once in a while depending on what we were doing, but we were pretty much on our own. We'd go swimming at the old pool or ride bikes all over town. Nearly everyday we'd walk through the campground and along the river and lake paths and talk to people that we'd meet. And several times during the trip we'd head down to the 'beach' and go out into the lake. There were some days that we'd only be able to wade out to our knees and that was as much of the cold water as we could handle. Other days (and they were usually the hot ones I suppose) we'd be all the way in, past where we could touch and actually swimming for all we were worth. That was atleast 10 years ago.

But this last weekend in Waterton with the whole family that's exactly what we were doing. Jen, Meagan, Mom, Amanda and I were each all the way into the water, swimming, floating and thoroughly enjoying the bitterly freezing cold water. I can't remember ever being so hot in Waterton, or anywhere for that matter, and I can't remember ever enjoying a swim in the lake more.

Obie brought up a couple of our inflatible rafts and once we had them blown up he and Arora and our cousin Brandon spent a good hour out on the water in the boats. Eventually the rest of the family made ouir way down to the water and I handed Zack off to Obie in the boat for a few minutes and the kids really seemed to enjoy themselves.

Overall the weekend was great. Hot, but great! We had a lot of fun and though we didn't end up doing any hiking (it was just too hot to force ourselves into such tortured exertion) we did manage to have a great time. All of the kids: Brandon, Arora, Amanda and Zack had fun playing together and they seemed to lack for something to do! The food was good, as it usually is when we're camping (for whatever reason food just tastes better when you're outdoors!). We all had fun just spending time together and I know that the weekend will be the highlight of many of our summers!

Oh the Joys of Camping!!

Such a hot weekend.

Never have I enjoyed more just turning a hose on and standing under it. So refreshing.
