A New Year and New Changes

It's 2008. That in itself is a change. The whole rolling over from 2007 to 2008 and remembering to put the right year on things. Sometimes it's a big deal. We had a New Year's Party this year at our house, it's something we haven't done before (for just our friends and stuff, not for our family) and we had a good time. For the week or so before that things at our house were a little touch and go for all of us and I have to be really honest and admit that if it weren't for Chessenda staying with us, my children probably wouldn't have survived that week. Three days in bed and a week without food, or even water really, does a number on a person. Again, in all honesty it had crossed my mind about the 22nd (of December) that I might be pregnant. But it wasn't something that I wanted to have to deal with, with everything else that was going on. Christmas, Jen and Ed being home, the New Year's party.... Of course ignoring it ended up being probably ...

Happy 18th Birthday Meagan!!!!

I can vividly remember the day you were born. It seems oh, so long ago. And of course, I still have nightmares of the first 3 or 4 years of your life. I can honestly say that when you were that young, I really didn't like you. All you did was cry and I have a three-year-old now so I know that, that, isn't normal. It sucked!! But eventually you got older, and with time you grew a bit taller, and you weren't quite as horrible as your behavior had initially made you seem. Do you remember when we actually put a line of masking tape down the middle of our bedroom to mark our sides????? Or how about the time you cut your hair and told mom I did it, so that I got in trouble???? When I got my own room you became infinitely more likable. :) Does that say something about you or me??? In any case, as we got older you became more than just my sister, you became my friend. We've shared a lot of things: from a bedroom to clothes, car crashes, drunken nights, secrets and ad...

An Ode to the Coffee Cup

Image
My favorite little sister came over yesterday and brought us our gifts from Europe.... and ate our pizza. While we all love our gifts and they are all cute and supremely appropriate for each of us, I think my present takes the cake :) Sure, Jen and I gave many laughing suggestions of what she should bring us back (i.e. the Crown Jewels - we did get a picture of those), I had mentioned that I really wanted something from Piza. I'm not sure that I'll ever actually be able to use it (one day I might try just for S&G) but I have to say that my present, my coffee cup, is probably the coolest thing Meagz could have brought me. So here Meagan, this is my Ode to the Coffee Cup!!! You Rock Meagan, THANK YOU! (and since you already posted this for public consumption I'm going to put here too...)

A Quickie!

So here's an update on the whole oven/stove issue. Allow me to briefly describe the conversation I had with my mom... Me: It worked before and now it doesn't. It's broken. (somewhat paraphrased) Mom: Check the fuses. Me: I will, but I'd rather have a new one. Mom: And if that's not it then replace the elements. Me: I will. But I'd really prefer a new one. Mom: Dad will be home on the weekend I'm sure he'd could look at it for you, if you need him too. (that one's somewhat paraphrased too but that's the gist of what she said) Me: He can. But I'd REALLY rather have a new one. For Christmas and all. (and I smiled sweetly even though she couldn't actually see it since we were on the phone!) Mom: It can probably be fixed. Me: Probably. Though I'd REALLY just like to get a NEW ONE! Mom: If it can't be fixed, we'll see. Me: (and I'm smiling really big now) Since it's Christmas and all? Mom: Yeah, Christmas. Somehow, ...

The Death of an Appliance

Oh! How quickly a day can change from happy to, uh, NOT so happy. So there I was, blissfully minding my own business and getting ready to make myself (and the Daddy) some lunch, when I twisted the dial on the stove to turn on the oven. I'd decided to make some chicken wings, since we've had them in the freezer for what seems like forever, and they have to bake in the oven for 15 minutes or so. But what happens when I turn the dial????? I'll tell you..... ABSOLUTELY FREAKING NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The light doesn't turn on. I'm thinking maybe it's just burned out. So I give the oven a couple of minutes to heat up but when I open the door the air inside feels suspiciously cooler then the air in my kitchen. Not a good thing when the oven is supposed to be warmed to 400 degrees. Still not sure if it's completely broken or if it's just not warm yet, I do something that under normal circumstances would be a very stupid move, I put my hand ...
